Basic Introduction about networking



Network: A Communication medium which responsible for sending and receiving messages among the sender and receiver,It is generally described as a system of interconnected devices that can communicate using some common standards (called protocols). These devices communicate to exchange resources (e.g. files and printers) and services. In simple a network is a interconnection of devices in order to share resources between them.


Types of networks

Based on the behavior network are classified into two types.


Internet:

a worldwide system of computer networks -- a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer.


Intranet:

The intranet is a private network that belongs to a particular organization. It is designed for the exclusive use of an organization and its associates, such as employees, customers, and other authorized people.



Network classifications

A network can be classified into:

LAN: Local Area Network is a collection of devices connected together in one physical location, such as a building, office, or home.


MAN: Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a computer network that connects computers within a metropolitan area, which could be a single large city, multiple cities and towns, or any given large area with multiple buildings. A MAN is larger than a local area network (LAN) but smaller than a wide area network (WAN).


WAN: Wide-Area Network (WAN) is a collection of local-area networks (LANs) or other networks that communicate with one another.


PAN: Personal Area Network (PAN): It is an interconnection of personal technology devices to communicate over a short distance.
